February Meeting: Crinoline

A most unusual meeting for us this month! Imagine the city of Bath at the turn of the eighteenth century bustling with the rich and not-so-rich wanting to see and be seen... Mrs Kitty Woodcock - with the aid of her maid - prepares to meet her cousin, Captain Swayne (dressed by his batman) of the Wiltshire militia, for a promenade through the fashionable Georgian streets. He cuts a dash in his military uniform, ready to serve his country in the Napoleonic Wars, while she wears her fashionable ‘chemise’ dress, with her Spencer and bonnet to keep the cold at bay. The models were dressed before our eyes, from their undergarments outwards, in outfits which are accurate copies of original muse

February Book Club: The Secret Wife

This month the lovely ladies of Book Club got together to discuss The Secret Wife by Gill Paul. Another good read: it's interesting to read a fictional account of a well known historical event, not to mention a quick burst of Boney M! (You'll know why if you read it!). We scored the book 7.5 out of 10. We also discussed some potential book club field trips. The possibilities include visits to Waterstones in Chippenham, plus Toppings, and Mr Bs in Bath. Then there's the film of one of our favourite books so far, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Pie Society, due out on April 20th. Keep an eye on our Facebook Group for these 'pop up' events and more! Our next review is Agatha Christie's The

Spirals of fun

February brought a new paper craft for the Crafty Crew to try, the art of quilling. Experienced and beginners alike produced interesting designs, with some being used for greetings cards. A great craft, we'll return to another time!

A Taste of Thailand

We tried a new restaurant for our latest Unofficial Supper Club, the Thai Taste. For those of you - like some of our ladies on the night - who don't know where this is, it's tucked in a corner next to the Rose and Crown pub and is well worth seeking out. We had a delicious meal in delightful company, who could ask for more? Well, watch this space for a new food based activity which we started to hatch whilst we enjoyed our Thai meal!
