Tea in the garden

There was no group meeting this month, but that didn't mean Pewsham Belles weren't up for get together, especially when it involves tea and cake in the garden! Fiona P kindly threw her home open to members plus their families and friends for a late afternoon tea and what a spread she laid on for us . There were both sweet and savoury treats - we all ate far more than we should AND took advantage of the doggy bags on offer AND there was still a table groaning with goodies left in our wake! Husband Rob kept the chimenea nicely topped up so we could enjoy a late summer evening on the patio and our latest WI honorary member (WInnie!) made a cuddlesome appearance. There was a serious point

Mischief at the Library

Our creative writers each had a slight variation on the Mischief at the Library writing prompt taken from the local paper last time, but it didn't stop the flow of ideas. We had our first dip into Sci-Fi and an introduction to the intriguing b'aliens, plus our first romance rather than the usual dysfunctional relationships. We all agreed that the latter kind is much easier to write than happy stories! A ghost story based on the real library pictured above and an event there in 1914 rounded up our trio of quite different tales. Book Club: The Lost World

The Book Club met to discuss The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle. It's over 100 years since it's publication and it certainly felt it was of that era! We scored the book 5.5 out of 10. The next book is All Together Now by Gill Hornby and we'll meet on Tuesday 11th September at 7.30pm in the Rivo Lounge. NB Our meeting dates until February 2019 are now up on the Book Club page.

Chippenham today

A small but perfectly formed group ably led by Fiona met for the Our Town group and took some photos of modern day Chippenham to contrast with how it looked 100 years ago. These will form part of our exhibition in September. They finished the evening with drinks and chat at The Angel. The next meeting on September 5th is a social and exhibit planning meeting where we'll collate everyone's contributions ready for the group meeting. Come armed with your stories about Chippenham and your relatives to add to the content!

Feel good shopping

We all love to shop! And if you shop online, then there's an easy way you can help Pewsham Belles WI raise some cash at no extra cost to you. The easyfundraising website has over 3,000 online stores on its books who are willing to donate commission if you shop via them instead of directly. Pewsham Belles has registered as a 'Cause' on there (we can because our WI is a charity), which means we can get that cash if you register and then shop via the site. Most of the big brands are there - see the examples to the left. We've already had donations flow in during our first week via bookings made with Trainline and Hotels.com, plus shopping with Marks and Sparks, eBay and Amazon. We'll use th
