The women who made me - the Chippenham story

How wonderful to have Lucy Whitfield - September's speaker - comment so generously about her evening with Pewsham Belles last Thursday. She said on Facebook: "Lovely evening talking all things women's history with Pewsham Belles WI - telling stories of laundries, cloth mills, lunatics, multiple births and colourful criminals. And they had really taken the #tellmeaboutyourgranny project by the horns. Thank you so much ladies." It was a fascinating evening and Lucy has sent us the link to one of the stories she featured, the feisty Mary Fairlie. You can find more fascinating stories on her Women who Made Me project website, which also features some of the varied Chippenham tales she's uncovered so far. Pictured behind Lucy is part of the supporting exhibit put on by the Our Town group exploring how Chippenham has changed over the past 100 years, a brief history of Pewsham, and exploration of some of our own relatives' stories in the spirit of #tellmeaboutyourgranny. Earlier in September the Book Club enjoyed Gill Hornby's All Together Now and the Crafty Crew had fun making cards for the Sunshine Fund.
