Cupcake Delights!

This month we were visited by Tash from the Rectory Kitchen.

Tash gave us a demo of how to use cutting tools to make flowers and butterflies out of sugar paste (fondant) to decorate our cupcakes. She advised that to achieve the best results for shaping the icing it’s good to allow time for them to dry out a little. Tash had produced some butterflies in advance and left them to dry over a stand to enable to wings to stand up, she also showed us how place the flowers on a sponge and use a tool to give the petals a more realistic shape.

Tash then demonstrated how to pipe the butter icing using the rose piping nozzle starting in the middle of the cake and piping to the outside and then using the swirl piping nozzle piping from the outside to the middle in an ice-cream style.

We each had two cupcakes, two icing bags each of the nozzles and a selection of sugar paste in different colour to use with the cutting tools.

It was amazing to see the variety of decorations made considering we were all using the same tools. It was a fun relaxed session leaving plenty of time to chat and catch up with friends.

Oh, and the cakes (baked by Fiona P) were scrummy!
