Down on the Farm - revisited

We couldn't resist adding an extra monthly meeting to this year's programme when Carolyne kindly to offered to host us at her family's farm in Avon. 23 Belles took the opportunity to meet in person and after such an indifferent summer it was great that the weather didn't let us down on the night!

We split into 2 groups for Joe and Irving to take us on a tour of the farm. It was amazing to hear how technology plays a role in the production of our food and how much care is taken with the animals' welfare. Then we oohed and ahhhhed over the mischeviously skittish piglets and the birth of a calf. Mum and calf are both doing well.

We also took the opportunity to stock up on cards and catalogues courtesy of Carolyne's daughter Jean, who's a Flamingo Paperie representative. She also took the group photo and is kindly making a donation to the Belles from her sales.

We rounded off the evening with everyone gathered together to enjoy tea, coffee, sausages and cakes, the latter kindly provided by Carolyn, Dinah, and Fiona P. There was much lively chat and gossip to go with our refreshments, plus a few packs of sausages sold to take home!

Fiona Ewing Stanford summed up the evening neatly:

"What a fantastic evening Carolyne. The tours were so informative, cakes delicious and company wonderful as always. Great group photo too. Thanks so much to you and your lovely family for having us x"

Elsewhere this month, Our Town enjoyed a fascinating insight into life during the Civil War when a re-enactment group came to town. The Book Club reviewed The Color Purple with a generally favourable result, and at least one visit to Denman at Home was made... to Claire's workshop on fabric dyes using the resist method.
