Hola AM!

March was time for our Annual Meeting and we were delighted to welcome Deb as our new Treasurer and thank Jenni (outgoing Treasurer) and Wendy for all their hard work on the committee. Ann remains our President for her final year in the role, with Jennie staying on as our Secretary and Diane, Gill and Sheila remaining as committee members. With our accounts also all in order, we're in good shape for another year.

With the evening's formal business out of the way, it was time to learn a little Spanish! Led by Jessica Bone, we learnt a few basic food items and had a fun session of going to the market, then finished off with ordering a meal at a restaurant. Jessica made it a fun, non intimidating session.

The photo above shows you some of the the possibilities for a meal out in Spain. Key phrases we learned to go with our food and drink were:

  • por favor - please

  • para mi - for me (so the waiter knows who's ordering)

  • no me gusta - I don't like, or me gusta mucho - I like it a lot

  • Soy alergica (female) or Soy alergico (male) - I'm allergic (oops, can't add the accent on the e!)

And in keeping with the evening's international theme, Deb bought in some homemade Welsh cakes to go with our teas and coffees!
