This week saw the first in-person meeting of the John Aubrey Group (JAG) - the combined Chippenham and surrounding village WIs - in two years! TV presenter and author Dr Stewart Farrimond took us through some of the science behind our everyday lives and the way our bodies work based on his latest book Science of Living. He busted quite a few myths in the process, and gave attendees much food for thought judging by the number of questions he had at the end.
Talking of food, the Belles had a new challenge for this meeting as it was the first time we've been in charge of the catering! It was the subject of much discussion by the committee, who decided the best way to ensure a safe delivery in these Covid times was to provide goody bags filled with lots of cake! This decision and the hard work of our nine volunteer bakers was rewarded by lots of compliments on the night and one attendee in particular said:
"How wonderful to have a bag full of proper WI cake!"
The evening closed with fresh challenges to come for the Belles, firstly with the delivery of the Chippenham WI poppy cascade for us to add our 250+ poppies to, followed by the bombshell that we are in charge of the JAG programme for next year. Your ideas for good speakers or activities in a hall with of an audience of 100+ are welcome!
