This month the Belles took on the Charleston & enjoyed every second! We were joined by Miss Emma from Miss Emma's Dancing and Deportment who was an absolute delight and it was pleasure to be taught by her. After a gentle warm up of stretches and breathing exercises, she took us through the Charleston Stroll, which she described as the 'line dancing of charlestons'! She carefully broke the dance down into a number of moves and we all gained renewed respect for those dancers on Strictly who make it look so easy. One intriguing move was 'the Egyptian', where we learned the 1920s went mad for anything Egyptian owing to the amazing discoveries made there a century ago.
Miss Emma also took us through the swivel step often seen in the charleston, though we didn't use it for the full dance we put together on the night. She pointed us in the direction of her You Tube channel for those who wanted to practice this more advanced step. We found it's a good one for strengthening calf muscles!
NB she has lots more videos on her YouTube channel which cover warm ups, the charleston and more.
As you can see, several Belles made an extra special effort and dressed for the occasion!
We laughed, we danced, we apologised to toes and we smiled all night long!
Just remember ladies….right, right, left, left, right, right….. that will be in your minds all night.
Elsewhere this month, Book Club took their first foray into Science Fiction and reviewed Frankenstein, whilst the Happy Hookers continued with their jolly Santa wreath. We added our poppies to the poppy cascade which was then proudly revealed in Emery Gate with all four Chippenham WIs in attendance. Dressing up fun continued with the charity Hallowe'en quiz fundraiser for Springboard where we enjoyed success at both quiz and fancy dress levels.
In the wider WI we catered for the John Aubrey Group with cakey goodness and found out how to live a better life, then virtually attended Wiltshire Federation's AM and heard what it takes to win the Chinese X Factor and from behind the scenes at the Salisbury poisonings.
