The Midnight Library

We had a lovely evening with the book club, where we welcomed Alison for the first time for our review of The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. There was lots of lively discussion, and we found the book very thought provoking, Whilst the subject matter initially concerns suicide, we thought most of the book was uplifting through its exploration of the possibilities of living different lives and the lesson that the best life to live is the one you have.

The experiences of our members in psychiatric hospitals and community care; work with the Samaritans; and care responsibilities for our loved ones added much to the discussion, especially when Sandy asked the thought provoking question, 'Can there be a good suicide?'

We scored this book 6.75 out of 10.

Our next meeting on 14th December will be our Christmas meal which is likely to be at the Taj Mahal (to be confirmed) and its open to all Pewsham Belles members, not just book club. We'll also be doing a Secret Santa book swap.

Our next read is Anthony Horowitz's Moonflower Murders, which we'll review at our January meeting, much to the relief of some book club members as it's a thick book!
