Chippenham History Group

A big thank you to everyone who came for the first meeting of our Chippenham History Group (snazzier name to be decided!). It was an evening full of laughs, ideas and sharing snippets of what we know about Chippenham. Who knew that the original Woolworths building (where Poundland is) was moved to Bath; OXO was made in the town; there was a girls, boys and a grammar school on the Hardenhuish/Sheldon site; and there's been settlement in the Chippenham area for a least 5,000 years (Lanhill barrow)?

Going forward we have a monthly programme of meetings planned until the end of the year. The next meeting is on September 6th; we're going to the talk on Chippeham's Lost Buildings with Alan Fuller at Chippenham Museum at 7.30pm. It costs £4 and you'll need to book with the museum to join in. Call 01249 705020, email heritage@chippenham.gov.uk or visit Chippenham Museum to book.

A ghost walk is planned for October and a Remembrance one around Pewsham for November. In December we're making a Chippenham version of Monopoly. We have loads of ideas for walks, talks, field trips, things to investigate, possible projects etc etc. to take us well into 2018 and beyond.
