Remember them

The start of the month saw the Our Town group exploring the streets of Pewsham where they'd researched the soldiers commemorated in the streets in which they live(d). Teresa's story of her great uncle showed there are names yet to be commemorated. The route started outside Pewsham Community Centre and was determined by the streets applicable to the walkers involved (or absent members who live on Pewsham). At each street we stopped and told the story of the soldier commemorated by the street name. We ended the walk at The Old Lane with refreshments and some war poetry written by women. The story of how the Commonwealth War Graves Commission was formed during WWI added some background to "the war to end all wars". Since then, Pewsham WI have added remembrance posters on all the streets named after soldiers killed. You can find out more about the street names here. On Remembrance Sunday (November 12th), Pewsham Belles will proudly represent all Chippenham WIs in the Remembrance service and wreath laying ceremony.
