January's Our Town group meeting was all about our first memories of Chippenham, ranging from the early 1960s to recent times, depending on whether the speaker grew up here or moved in recently. All were fascinating accounts with a common theme: how much the town has changed. This also led to a discussion on how to create/retain a sense of community in the town, particularly as many people now commute outside for their work. We didn't come to a conclusion, but hope the recent formation of Pewsham Belles and Chippenham's other WIs are helping. Look out for more stories about Chippenham as the group embark on a major project for 2018 to commemorate the centenary of women obtaining the vote, with the working title '100 Stories'. The photo shows one of the most recent changes to Chippenham in late 2017; the demolition of many of Westinghouse's buildings to make way for Aldi, a Travelodge and 400 new homes.
