A lesson with Miss Squire

July's Our Town visit saw our Belles travelling back in time to the Victorian School at Sevington. Carolyne Carter (via Facebook) reports: "Michelle and I had a lovely afternoon. We had to eat cake (or we would have been punished like the notice says!!). Michelle got ink all over her hands and we wrote with slate pencils on slate boards." Michelle added: "So much ink on my hands I'm surprised Miss Squire (the schoolmistress at Sevington for decades until its closure in 1913) didn't give me the cane! The school is a gem with links to Joseph Neeld and Robin Tanner for those of you interested in local history." As some of the Our Town group couldn't make July's open afternoon, our intention is to return during September's Heritage Open Days.
