A birthday and a gaggle of gonks

It's Pewsham Belles' sixth birthday and the cue for our Annual Meeting (in-person at last) as well as some celebratory cake!

The Crafty Crew led the evening's main activity where we created a gaggle of gonks - the collective term nominated by Fiona P afterwards for our results. All that's needed is some wool, an inch or so of loo roll inner, a wooden bead (or similar) for the nose, scissors and a darning needle. Kay's huge stash of yarn inherited from her family came to the rescue in supplying a vast range of colours for the Belles to choose from for the gonks' hats, plus plenty of white for them to make the beard. You can read more about the make itself plus the Crew's top tips here.

Everyone had a lovely relaxing time, with plenty of chat, laughter and a cute gonk to take home.

And don't forget the cake! Fiona P brought along plenty of chocolate and Bakewell goodies for us to celebrate our birthday in style. It was a double celebration as we're relieved the Belles is set to continue, as we've had some volunteers step forward to fill the Officers roles - hurray! Events leading up to the meeting meant the official side of things was split into two, with the current Officer's reports given and accepted at the meeting. April will see the second part take place to vote in the new Officers and committee. Lesley Holdway will join us to conduct this aspect in her role as WI Adviser and neutral supporter of the Belles.

Elsewhere this month Book Club were surprised they enjoyed Neil Gaiman's The Ocean at the End of the Lane so much, as were the Theatre Club when they saw CLOGS perform The Addams Family musical at the Neeld Hall. A huge cast, a small orchestra, and great performance made for a great show enjoyed by all. The Crafty Crew had an enjoyable afternoon when they turned their hands to lino printing and made a variety of designs, some on cards. Finally the Walkie Talkies explored the area and mud around Holt and Great Chalfield Manor. Some members explored the mud more thoroughly than others!
