Gnometastic!

The Crafty Crew had a fantastic afternoon at Diane I's where we helped her finish her seasonal chocolates while we made some fantastic gnomes - or gonks if you prefer! We also welcomed Michele to the Crew for the afternoon.

This is a deceptively simple make, with great results. Note this will be our group activity for March's meeting. If you'd like a sneak peek at what's involved you can view the video here. Note that Diane has improved and simplified what's involved so the use of a glue gun or rubber band aren't needed. We also found a partial stuffing of the hat made it easier to thread the hanging thread through, then finishing off the stuffing afterwards.

Diane also substituted a small pom pom for the nose for her original make, though thanks to Wendy we were all able to use little wooden beads as shown in the video and she also had a supply of keyring parts if anyone wanted a more practical use for their gnome. We secured the beads by threading a couple of strands of the beard wool through and Michelle's were long enough that she could tie them off securely at the back. We also thought a sneaky secret small stitch to attach the bead to the hat brim would help to stop its tendency to disappear under the hat.

We also discussed making larger gnomes. These used loo roll innards as the base and we thought a Pringles tube is the next step up! Angela also found a cute bird to make using leftover wool and similar principles in its creation which you might like to do too.

Here are our final results from the crafternoon!
