Here's to a woolly 2024!

December's Happy Hookers meeting was a relaxed social one where 2024's activities were also brainstormed ready for the group getting stuck into the chosen activities later this month. As you can see from the photo, several blankets destined for Bath Cats and Dogs Home were also collected. There are several more to come at the next meeting, so we will have a huge bagful to donate. Each animal at the shelter is given their own blanket which also goes with them when they're rehomed. Our blankets come in various sizes, so we have some suitable for both cats and dogs.

This community focused project may also continue into 2024 and if you'd like to contribute, Michelle will endeavour to deliver all donations to the Home's shop in Trowbridge later this year, Knitted donations are also welcome and do bear in mind that the chosen stitch(es) should be closer weave so that paws don't get tangled up.

Michelle found and used a Yarnspirations crochet pattern for her simple blanket which is for a 30 inch (cat) or 40 inch (dog) blanket depending on the chosen size. She did ask at the shop for a guidance on sizing and the answer was "anything as we have animals of all shapes and sizes"! Note she substituted yarn from her stash instead of that given in the pattern.

Our planned activities for the year are:

  • January - D-Day crochet project

  • February - Easter make

  • March - Tunisian crochet technique

  • April - Fine yarn bookmark

  • May - Bags (drawstring and other types)

  • June - Field trip

  • July - Yarndale world project

  • August - African flower part 1

  • September - African flower part 2

  • October - Hats and scarfs for Doorway (knitted contributions also welcome)

  • November - Lacy crochet (stars etc.)

  • December - End of year get together/planning meeting

All meetings will be a Gill's on the third Saturday afternoon of the month, unless advised otherwise.
