Rooted in Chippenham

Saturday's Our Town was more of a Flexi club event, but that 's OK as it turns out the new ArDe cafe on New Road is a very fine, welcoming one indeed. Thanks to Susan, Deborah, and Carolyn for coming and the later discovery that Ann and Vicky are sneakily working their way through the cake menu on offer. As Vicky said, "It has to be good seeing it's the furthest cafe to walk over to from Pewsham."

Michelle thoroughly enjoyed the Rooted In Chippenham event at the History Centre and catching up with Jennie who volunteers on the Rooted community market garden there. They both enjoyed a tour round the Archives where staff have been researching gardening and related subjects to be found in Wiltshire's archives. They've unearthed some gems including recipes collected by the Fox Talbots in Lacock, stories from Sutton Benger re collecting local herbs as a source of extra income, and how the village of Minety got its name. The display also included the work of Ann Swan, a local and nationally important botanical artist plus items relating to local historic houses and garden design. Some of this research culminated in three eye catching leaflets complete with free seeds and tips for growing.
