Some festive "bootees"

Our Happy Hookers continued with their festive makes this month courtesy of this lovely mini Christmas stocking, which are around the same size as a baby's bootees when finished. We quickly established they are just the right size for a couple chocolates such as Ferrero Rocher or Celebrations.

Just one each were completed on the day, but the suggestion from Hobbycraft - where this make was spotted - is to create sufficient for a charming Advent calendar or a personalised set of stockings. Their website has written instructions, or you can view a video version here.

This was an amigurumi make with a twist, as a more conventional 'back and forward' section is made after the toe to form the contrasting heel before picking up the amigurumi stitch again to complete the stocking.

It was a satisfying and charming make, though we felt the pattern could be adapted to make it look more like a stocking than a bootee. Gill used double crochet (UK term) for the body of her stocking (instead of the treble stitch given), which went some way to achieving the desired effect. We agreed this is one for us to experiment with and shows how our confidence in our hooky skills has increased, now we're thinking of adapting patterns!
