Chippenham Museum have been inventive with their offerings during the Covid-19 situation, providing activities, caption competitions, seeking out lost pubs and posting a host of other material across social media and their website over the summer. They reopened to the public recently and it's now possible to book a timed slot for up to 6 people to visit. You can be assured of a warm welcome and interesting new exhibitions when you go.
It was great to see that inventiveness extended to this year's Heritage Open Days, with a walk along St Mary Street to delve deeper into the history and architecture of its buildings and uncover the stories of the people who've lived there. Naturally, Our Town had to be there to see (and hear) it! For most attendees it was their first experience of using QR codes and you can see Vicky in the photo above pointing to the first one on the walk. Inside each QR code lies a link to a specific place on the internet (YouTube in this case), which is accessed via a QR Code reader app on a smart phone. Simply open the app, line up the phone's screen with the code on display and voila! the specific website item is made available.
There were 5 QR codes to explore on the walk, with each stop resulting in a photo plus a recording to listen to on YouTube. It made for a pleasant half an hour walk on a sunny day. Naturally we also had a stop for coffee beforehand, with Fiona ES's suggestion of The Angel Hotel providing a spacious oasis in their garden for us all to sit safely together, yet still practising our social distance!
