On a mountain high*

In a weekend of Flexi-club firsts, our second event saw a group of intrepid Pewsham Belles explorers head into Wales to climb Pen y Fan on Saturday! Pen y Fan is in the Brecons National Park and is the highest British peak south of Cadair Idris in Snowdonia. It's also the county highest point for both Powys and Monmouth and Breckonshire. As you can see conditions were quite challenging at the top and the group had to hang onto the Pewsham Belles banner so it didn't blow away. Here are a few more photos courtesy of those posted by Sue E, Fiona B and Kay on Facebook.

On reaching Cardiff services Sue E said: "We walked through cloud and mist and even walked through snow......but it was the wind! 😂. Now for a well deserved cup of coffee." Kay added: "We will have to do it again when visibility is better as I am sure that the views would be stunning." Well done ladies and it's great to see some of our newer members getting involved with our clubs. * = According to Google the UK definition of a mountain is as follows: "Unfortunately, there is no universally accepted standard definition for the height of a mountain or a hill although a mountain usually has an identifiable summit. In the United Kingdom, a mountain must be over 600 metres (1969 feet) or over 300 metres (984 feet) if it's an abrupt difference in the local topography." Therefore, at 886 metres (2907 feet), Pen y Fan is most definitely a mountain!
