Meet the Walkie Talkies!

Well, some of them at least! Lockdown doesn't seem the kind of time when a new WI club would form, but Pewsham Belles like to buck the trend. We'd seen lots of intriguing new places in and around Chippenham on our members' own Facebook feeds, and so Fiona P thought a virtual walking group would be a great idea for those places and their locations to be shared and visited more widely. The idea's been met with enthusiasm with over 20 members signed up already, and with lots of fantastic names to choose from, the group voted for the Walkie Talkies! Now that Lockdown's been eased a little, the group's in an ideal place to join up in small groups for some socially distanced walking. With lots of chat going on, a Messenger Group proved a little difficult to follow the various threads, so a private Facebook Group's been formed instead. Contact Fiona P, Clare or Michelle if you'd like to join. Already we've seen plenty of arrangements being made for new walks. Essentially someone says they'd like to do a walk and can find up to five people to join her. Or someone might be unsure of a route and finds guide(s) who know the way and further buddies to walk with. The first couple of walks were in completely opposite directions from town. At the top of this post we have a view from the walk from Pewsham to Lacock. Bird's Marsh Woods has been a discovery for many during Lockdown and the photo below shows the latest expedition there earlier this week. The route is currently a bit of a moveable feast owing to the building work disrupting various public footpaths, but it is still possible to visit the woods and enjoy this tranquil spot on Chippenham's northern outskirts.
